Expanding Care Beyond McLean County
Residents have appreciated the convenience of Carle Eureka Hospital for many years. Now they can also count on their local hospital to provide joint replacement surgery and post-surgical recovery services. Well-known orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Joseph Novotny, offers his expertise with enthusiasm to the Eureka Hospital surgical team. He understands the value of having quality care close to home and is glad to be a part of this important community initiative.
Together with the Eureka team of six nurses, two surgical techs and two support team members, Dr. Novotny kicked off the local service at Carle Eureka Hospital with a hip replacement procedure in December of 2021. After the successful surgery, their patient took advantage of in-hospital healing through the swing bed program. This is a convenient way for patients to begin healing without having to be transferred; patients can stay in the same room on the inpatient floor of the hospital. She began intensive physical therapy right away, right in her hometown. The services were greatly appreciated, as was the location, which enabled her husband to be right by her side.
Eureka area residents can now benefit from local orthopedic surgical services including arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgeries, upper extremity and hand surgeries, as well as total shoulder, hip, and knee replacements. Carle Health strives to offer higher-level services throughout all communities served. Returning joint replacement surgery to Carle Eureka Hospital showcases a dedication to this mission.
